Day 12: Learning more about Islam at the Mosque (plus staying at the Tekoma Resort!)

 Hi everyone!

Today was a chill day. We took a break from the homestays and stayed at the Tekoma Resort.

We did laundry at a local laundromat and walked around town. Then we visited the mosque in the area! We had to dress up in the traditional clothes necessary to enter the mosque--the girls wore headscarves/hijabs and modest clothes and the boys wore a long tunic paired with loose pants. We talked to the Imam (which is the person who leads the prayers), and he told us about his journey into Islam. He told us about the six pillars of faith in Islam and what it means to practice and pray day-to-day. After our amazing experience at the mosque, we headed back to the hotel and received our room assignments. The rest of the afternoon was pretty chill, some people went to the pool to swim or talk, some went around town to buy snacks or ice cream and others just stayed in their rooms.

While today was not as action-packed as the other days, last night was super eventful! We had dinner at Tali, Sophia, and Emily's homestay, then we heard about an elephant spotting about forty minutes away so we drove to see them! We saw about eight very big elephants up close! They were magnificent!

Wishing you the best!
