Day 13: Goodbye to Tekoma Resort and Dinner at Emma and Linnea's

Yesterday, we were at the Tekoma resort. We had a day full of activities and fun. We swam in the pool, played poker, pool, and watched the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

We awoke to Mr. Chang as he banged upon our door. We didn't know what was going on, and at first we freaked out thinking that our room was being invaded. However, as we came to our senses, we realized that all was well. With daylight flooding into our windows we had survived the night. We returned home to our homestay Fadil's sanctuary. Everyone else went to do their own things and we were able to spend the rest of the day with each of our individual home stays. After recollecting ourselves we went out with Fadil to fish down at the Tehan Negara river, since only one of us in the group had fished, the first 15 minutes became a struggle. Teddy casted into the ground multiple times and cast his rod without any bait not realizing it had fallen by his foot below him for a good five minutes. Jackson was semi-successful but ended up catching his rod on a rock and losing his fish 3 feet away from him :(. All of Fadils cousin's also came to fish, but they also failed to catch anything. Although we failed to catch anything, we had an amazing time hanging out with Fadil and his cousins, filled with lots of laughter, fried chicken, and funny memories. 

We left the river around 7:30 so that we could make it to Emma and Linnea's for dinner with the whole group. The food was delicious and it was fun to see everyone again after not seeing them for the whole day. It is now after dinner and we are stuck writing this blog while everyone else sings karaoke, dances, and plays with fireworks. See you tomorrow for another eventful day.

Day 4: Learning about Islam, more delicious food, and pretty lights!

 Hello everyone! Today, we learned about Islam! We went to the national mosque (which receives 14,000 visitors every Friday!). We walked around the mosque and learned about the five pillars of Islam and more from a woman called Lawyhi. The five pillars are monotheism, prayer, fasting, charity, and pilgrimage (going to Mecca).  We also went to the Islamic Museum of Art. Some of us loved seeing the tessellations, domes, and vegetal patterns--these design elements reminded them of what they learned in Humanities I this year. Others liked weapons like the saber and Islamic architecture. Then, it was time for lunch. To travel to this scrumptious food, we took the metro! The women in the group took the woman-only car. So first-class and epic! We also had lunch at the AMAZING Lot10 Hutong in Bukit Bintang! First day at Menlo

  Today we went over our itinerary   for Malaysia and bonded with our group. We went over travel details and took a group photo. We also filled out the travel documents as well as creating guidelines for us to follow when we are abroad. We assigned daily jobs, learned how to use VIBE (vitality, inner feelings, basics, engagement) for our check-in and wrote letters to our future selves after the trip. Day 3 Malaysia

Today we arrived in Malaysia! We took an hour bus from the airport to Kuala Limpur, and quickly dropped off our luggage before heading out. We had lunch at Central market (a food/mall) with a variety of cultural food options. Within the mall there were many stores filled with homemade clothing, cloths, and jewelry. After eating and exploring the mall, we went to Petaling Street (China Town) where we bought souvenirs for friends, families, and ourselves. Some got to display their bargaining skills while others got called out for lowballing too hard The market had lots of small knick knacks, jewelry, clothes, and replica designer watches. Afterwards, we went back to the hotel to rest and refresh before going out to the night market for dinner. Some people tried unusual foods like the pungent fruit durian, sting ray, salted egg squid and sea snails (called  Siput Sedut ) .
